The story of Catana: the world-renowned French catamaran shipyard

Catana 53

The founding of the Catana shipyard

The Catana shipyard was founded in 1984 by Olivier Poncin, a sailing enthusiast, in Canet-en-Roussillon (Pyrénées-Orientales, France). From the very beginning, Catana stood out for its constant pursuit of innovation: advanced designs, cutting-edge technology, and high-quality materials. The first models, the Catana 42 and the Catana 48, were an immediate success among sailing enthusiasts for their performance and comfort.

The development of the Catana shipyard

In the 2000s, Catana experienced significant growth. In 2002, the Catana 50 was launched and was very well received, followed by the Catana 55 and Catana 58. In 2008, a new production facility in Canet-en-Roussillon increased the shipyard’s manufacturing capacity.

Catana also expanded internationally with a subsidiary in the United States in 2006 and a production site in Tunisia in 2007. In 2014, Olivier Poncin launched the Bali brand as a separate and complementary brand to Catana.
