The evolution of Lagoon catamarans: history, models and ranges

How was the first Lagoon catamaran born?

The design of Lagoon catamarans was born in 1984, following the launch of a new workshop at the Jeanneau shipyard: JTA (Jeanneau Techniques Avancées), dedicated to racing boats. It was Florence Cathiard who then proposed an innovative project: to launch a high-performance cruising catamaran on the market based on VPLP Design plans.

A few weeks later, the first Lagoon catamaran was born: the Lagoon 55, designed by Vincent Lauriot-Prévost and Marc Van Peteghem. The objective was to create a range of catamarans offering a level of comfort and performance superior to traditional monohulls.

The development of Lagoon catamarans during the 1990s

After some criticism regarding the headroom and the size of the saloon of the Lagoon 55, the shipyard launched the Lagoon 57 and Lagoon 47. The Lagoon 37 and 42 models were designed for the American charter market. In 1997, the Lagoon 410 met a demand for catamarans that were both ultra high-performance and luxurious. The first Lagoon power catamarans (Power 43 and Power 44) also made their appearance.

The evolution of Lagoon catamarans during the 2000s

2004 saw the arrival of the Lagoon 440. In 2008, the Lagoon 420 Hybrid impressed with its two electric engines. The following year, the Lagoon 620 was launched. In 2010, three new models left the shipyard: Lagoon 560, Lagoon 450 Flybridge, and Lagoon 450 Sport. In 2014, the spectacular 600 hp Lagoon 630 MY trawler was presented, followed by the Lagoon Sixty 5 in 2020.
